Definitely Daniel Day Lewis. He only comes out with a movie like once every few years, and then he's nominated, and then he wins.
daniel day-lewis in "there will be blood" is the best performance i've ever seen, period. plenty of the movie is long shots and close-ups of him, sometimes silent, sometimes giving life to some seriously twisted words, and anyone else could have bored the audience. daniel day-lewis can also play pretty much anyone (anyone who has some pent-up anger especially). i recently saw "my left foot" and was similarly impressed by that performance. he's the man.
