I like Julian Schnabel for this one. I haven't seen his movie, but I loved his older film Before Night Falls.

The Coen brothers are another possibility.

It will come down to the Coen brothers vs. Julian Schnabel.

i don't mean to sound like i don't like the coen brothers... they're very good filmmakers. but "no country" isn't their best film, in my opinion, so they should hold on and win for something else.

"diving bell" is a really interesting, original movie, and julian schnabel definitely makes his mark as a director, doing something really special.

but of course, my preference is PTA. he's the man. i think he should have won for "magnolia," but he wasn't even nominated. it's a travesty. perhaps the academy is waiting for him to get a bit older. he's too young of a genius.

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly was by far the most beautiful movie i have seen in a long time. Both visually stunning and emotionally consuming i definitely think Julian Schnabel should/will win.
