Although the other candidates are well qualified for the title of "Best Picture" I think it should go to Little Miss Sunshine. Although I'd probably consider it the underdog since it is a very different sort of film than past winners with films that are epic to say the least. Little Miss Sunshine, however, brings a subtlety to cinema and a truthfulness that sets it apart from the rest. The others may take your breath away, but this one leaves you with something. This one makes you look at your own life and laugh at some of the absurdity. All in all, I found it the best picture I'd seen in a long time and a strong nominee for this award.

I was disappointed to not see Children of Men nominated, although not terribly surprised. I know some dismissed it as melodramatic and while I can see their point, I thought it was a marvelous story directed in an original way. And Clive Owen is always fun to watch.

It's a toss up between Little Miss Sunshine and The Departed I think. Both films are fantastic in their own ways and it's hard to judge because they're both in different genres. I can honestly say that The Departed is at the pinnacle of action-suspense drama. There were so many twist and turns in the movie, and the ending was so unexpected. I loved it.

However, Little Miss Sunshine warmed my heart. Everything from the setting to the lighting was just perfect for that movie. It was so quirky but so lovable at the same time.

I think I would be happy if either one of those movies won.

I agree with dark: Children of Men wuz robbed!

It's a dystopian vision of a future that seems increasingly plausible, at least in its larger outlines. Highly recommended, and you don't need to be a science fiction fan to find it riveting.

I feel as though that there is too much hype around Little Miss Sunshine, it has been "the" indie film of the year, and undoubtly we are now going to see eight different movies in the next two years all with a similar plot line and character types. I won't deny that it was a good enjoyable movie, but I just do not think it was something so epic that deserves and Oscar.

I feel as though The Departed will not win because of the Academy's strong aversion to Martin Scorsese, although he may get a best director as an apology for Raging Bull and Goodfellas, I do not think that the academy will let him walk away with too many "prestigous" Oscars. I don't think Babel will win, because that would be two films with a "social conscience" back to back. I don't think the Queen will win because it just wasn't a very strong film.

That leaves Clint Eastwood, an Academy favorite, and Little Miss Sunshine, it is a toss up between these two films and I feel as though Little Miss Sunshine will get the award because it is the dark horse canidate, and will be a big suprise, I will not be impressed, and I agree with Dark and Cyrus, Children of Men was way better than a lot that was nominated, and was robbed, and if the Academy truly wanted to impress me they would let the Departed win.

I agree, all of these movies are deserving, but I think that Babel should be the winner. In these times that are so politically complicated and ridiculous, Babel provides an unusual view on the world as it hits different locations around the world. The plots that take place in Japan and on the Mexican border are particularly unique, and yet at the same time stays completely entertaining and interesting. There was not a single weak spot in the acting and that deserves recognition. It was definetly one of the best movies I've seen in a very long time.

Although I said I think Little Miss Sunshine will win, a comment by which I still stand, I do agree that if Children of Men had been nominated I would've given it to that hands down. It really left me shaken up, something the others didn't do. As said, Little Miss Sunshine left me with something, but the cinematography of Children of Men, Clive Owen's performance, and just some of the incredible moments definitely make it (or should have made it) the best picture.

I would actually like to add an adendum to what I had previously said, I think that Departed will sweep.
